The Ancient Split tour usually lasts about 2 hours, during which you will have the opportunity to see the most important sights. The tour may be extended depending on how many questions you have for the guide! We start at Prokurative, or, as it is officially called, the Republic Square, which resembles St. Marks Square in Venice. The square has long been established as an excellent stage for cultural events. The pop music festival and the local bars and restaurants in particular made this a popular venue for the citizens of Split. From there we will cycle on towards Diocletian’s Palace; one of the world’s best preserved monuments of Roman architecture. The Emperor’s Palace was built as a combination of a luxury villa/summer house and a Roman military camp and is divided into four parts with two main streets.
Next we will cycle on to Pazar open air market; one of the centers of life in Split. Here you can still feel the spirit of Dalmatia and the Mediterranean, the colors, flavors and aromas of fresh fruits and vegetables. This along with the sounds, the yelling and bargaining, you will without a doubt be reminded you of where you are.
Later on we will arrive at Riva, a pedestrian heaven, throbbing with Cafés and restaurants. This is an ideal place to have your morning or afternoon coffee, or for drinks on an evening out with friends. Riva is the stage where the city life of Split plays out.
Our tour will lead us on along the west coast of the Split harbor towards the Sustipan cemetery. From here, we will have an extraordinary view of the entire bay of Split and the nearby islands. We will then enter Varos, an old fisherman’s village right next to Diocletian’s Palace, and experience the vivid contrast between these two Mediterranean architectural styles.
