MTB & Boat National Parks of Dalmatia Standard
(8 Days/7 Nights, aprx. 100 mi./160 km, 6,560 ft./2,000 m of elevation by MTB, level 1 – 2, S0 – S2)
Experience the waterfalls of the National Park Krka, join the unforgettable cruise through the Kornati Islands and spend a week on a charming motor boat on the National Parks of Croatia Tour!
Countless natural beauties and phenomena are waiting to be experienced, all the while living history wants to be discovered within Šibenik and Zadar.
Venture into the heart of the National Parks landscapes on this off-road adventure; explore the virgin beauty of Croatia’s protected scenic landscapes as you bike along mostly wide panoramic trails in the greenest regions of Dalmatia. This tour is a great way to get accustomed to cycling off-road, with a reasonable number of kilometres and meters of elevation – however, it’s not too technically challenging. The hilly landscape with partly challenging slopes requires does good physical condition, though. The islands, as well as the mainland, vary greatly and offer a wide variety of trail terrain: both wide natural paths and small side roads will be included in this tour.
This MTB tour takes place parallel to our trekking bike cruise National Parks of Dalmatia on the same boat – one tour guide takes care of the mountain bikers and the other one accompanies our trekking riders. If you have a partner or a friend who might prefer cycling to biking, don’t hesitate to bring him/her with you. That way, you can have a vacation together and indulge in your favorite hobbies during the daytime.

The magnificent port of Skradin is today’s starting point for our excursion by boat and on foot to the most famous part of the Krka National Park with its unique waterfalls. We pass the bridge and cycle along the water front, passing by two very old coastal villages, until we reach a small landing place from where the boat takes us on a cruise through the National Park Kornati, an archipelago in crystal clear water which is known for its rich aquatic realm. Our destination is the Nature Park Telašćica. In the evening a walk through the park leads us along the stunning cliffs of the island. The famous Silver Lake – known by movies of Winnetou – is also located in the Nature Park. Overnight stay on the Island of Dugi Otok.

GOOD TO KNOW
Changes
We reserve the right to make changes to the itinerary, depending on wind and weather conditions or organizational requirements.
MTB Level 1-2
Sporty daily tours with partly mountainous stages of about 12,5 to 22 mi./20 to 35 km and 820 to 1,475 ft./250 to 450 m of elevation and trails officially defined by the European single trail scale as levels S0 – S1, very rarely S2. The mountain bike terrain is very diverse as is the landscapes of the different islands. The hilly to mountainous terrain with some steep ascents requires good physical condition. The islands are very different from one another and have a correspondingly large amount of variety while biking: wide natural trails, small side roads, Roman roads, great promenades and narrow paths run across the island.
Requirement to wear a helmet
Helmets are mandatory on our bike tours. It is advised to bring your own, well fitted, helmet with you as our rental helmet numbers are limited (reservation required). Furthermore, we recommend riders to carry arm and leg protectors during the bike tours. Our tours are dependent on weather conditions and the final decision is that of the captain. This tour is primarily a guided group tour. Upon consultation with your tour guides, the possibility to cycle on your own along recommended, suitable routes, may present itself. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend time on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bike-tour.
Group riding pace
On a guided MTB tour the speed of the group is determined by the mountain bikers on regular bikes. If you have hired an e-MTB, we ask you to respect those in the group who are riding without electric support. Those on regular bikes require more time and recovery when biking up hill. We thank you for your understanding.
Single-Trail Classification
So that you are well prepared for your bike tour at Islandhopping, and that you know which technicality grade you should await to be confronted by, we have have comprised a classification for all single trails which you will ride. The difficulty levels included in our classification coincide with the Singeltrail-Skala found at (http://www.singletrail-skala.de/).
Blue (easy, S0 – S1): small obstacles such as small roots, small stones, small gully erosion, gradients of up to 40 %, loose surfaces, tight corners but no hairpins, skilful braking and weight shift required, riding while standing, obstacles can be rolled over.
Red (medium, S2): loose surfaces, larger stones and roots, steps and shallow stairs, gradients of up to 70 %, light hairpins, permanent braking readiness, displacement of centre of mass to overcome obstacles, accurate braking, permanent body tension.
Black (heavy, S3 – S5): blocked single trails, many large boulders and roots, smooth/slippery surfaces, loose scree slopes, large steps/drops, extremely steep gradients of over 70 %, tight hairpins, expert level of bike control/handling.
Catering
The on-board chef is a member of the crew and prepares the breakfast and one or two warm meals a day. The catering consists of 2 x full board and 5 x half board. Catering starts with the dinner on the arrival day and ends with the breakfast on the departure day.
Language
Due to our international audience all Islandhopping tours are conducted bilingually, in English and German.
